() "The programmer, who needs clarity, who must talk all day to a machine that demands declarations, hunkers down into a low-grade annoyance. It is here that the stereotype of the programmer, sitting in a dim room, growling from behind Coke cans, has its origins. The disorder of the desk, the floor; the yellow Post-It notes everywhere; the whiteboards covered with scrawl: all this is the outward manifestation of the messiness of human thought. The messiness cannot go into the program; it piles up around the programmer. "
- Ellen Ullman

Del is a sword-dancer from the North who has come south in search of her brother who was taken by slavers five years before. Tiger agrees to be Del's guide over the desert and to help her with her search. (Since she is gorgeous and making a few extra coins would not hurt.)
And thus begins an epic adventure that will bring Tiger and Del face to face with their greatest fears...and if they had known they would encounter cannibals, slavers, desert storms, and sandtigers (to name a few) on their journey as well, those would have certainly been on the greatest fears list. |

Click to PurchaseDescription: Sword Breaker is the fourth book in Jennifer Roberson's Tiger and Del series. It wraps up the original story arc of vengeance pursued by the obsessed Del.The characters are fleshed out in a way rarely seen in any genre, much less fantasy. The odd contrast of heroic deed and all-too-human foible, especially in Tiger's case, makes for reading that will make you wish you lived there, and laugh at some of the things that happen to those who do. The fact the Jennifer chose to write this first person is surpassed only by the amount of insight to the male psyche she obviously possesses.
