Biography: Craig Sturman (AKA Syngin)

Syngin and CorinneThe name Syngin (pronounced SIN-jin) arose years ago during my early years on IRC in the mid 90’s and seemed a logical choice for my portfolio domain.

Background: I’ve been involved heavily with computers since the early 80’s when I received a Timex Sinclair 1000 (a North American knockoff of the European ZX81). My first serious program was an ASCII wrestling program that I developed on this system around my 12 th birthday. From a hardware perspective, I’ve been through every level of IBM clone architecture from 086 to my current dual core system.

I’m a firm supporter of Linux and its community, and can usually be found on JustLinux.Com in the forums. I have been using Debian and Redhat Linux distributions since 2000 and I generally consider them to be my favorite server OSes of choice.

For the last few years, I‘ve been honing my web development skills having broadened my language development skills across HTML, PHP, ASP, CSS and ASP.NET (C#) as well as multiple database platforms including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MS Access. The majority of my web development experience has been in database-driven sites with custom content management systems such as this one as well as business intranet applications generally used for tracking / accounting purposes. I’m also an avid graphic designer (as I hope this site shows) and have been using Adobe Photoshop and a plethora of 3D modeling programs for numerous years.

I thoroughly enjoy my chosen profession and, to be honest, I’d still be developing whether I was getting paid for it or not.
