Academies
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: The academies are the training schools of the scholar sect founded by the Brechenridge astrological order. Controlled chiefly by House Varh, they charge no fee for enrollment but require a percentage of the scholar's wage once they are employed in their field. As a result, academies are exceedingly active in finding their alumni employment. The oldest academy in Elania is the aged Brechenridge college located at Starlin-Ren and was the site of the creation of the Brechenridge Almanac.

Accepted Wood
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: 'Accepted Wood' is a term referring to wood that allowed into the Vyrasian Embassies in Elsmere Major, Elsmere Minor and Torlyn. It is a term covered in the First Corollary to the Gildenhurst Accords:

"...no wood taken from a live tree shall be permitted entrance into any Vyr' Kaersan Embassy and all wood used in the Elish Embassy at Vyr-Hedra shall originate from forests south of Gildenhurst..."

This Corollary resulted from the incident that occurred following the establishment of the first Vyrasian Embassy at Elsmere Major. It represented the collective shock and outrage of the exceptionally environment-conscious Vyrs at being presented with an enormous oak conference table by Potentate Heldrinn to mark the occasion. Overall, Accepted Wood is anything created from the wood of a tree that died from natural cases, ie. lightning strike, bear attack, etc.

Aerie's Course
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: The Aerie's Course represents a bonding of certain ancient species of bird to elemental controllers of note. This bonding is an unexplained phenomenon which may be an evolutionary progress from the time of the Oldworlders. Study suggests that there is a pecking order among the bird species. As a rule, lesser birds seek out less powerful controllers while owls seek out only Manifestors. For an as yet unknown reason, the raptor species such as hawks, falcons and eagles do not participate in the Course. Abilities conferred by the link can be the ability to communicate telepathically as well as clairvoyance. For additional information, see the Covenant.

Afterworld
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: The Afterworld is generally believed by the Elish population to be the final resting place of the soul. This belief is shared by a few of the other races (not the Vyrs due to their atheism however) but generally is referred to by different names. For example, The Saimorn refer to it as Korderal's Refuge, named for one of their most successful warriors during the Borderwar with Els.

Aguila
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: Aguila (pronounced 'a-GEE-la') is the northernmost city on the Sauvrid peninsula on the Ozleren continent. It is primarily a mining city and the source of much of the iron ore on the continent.

Assembly of the Great Houses of Els
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: The Assembly is the political legislature of the government in Els. It is comprised of 50 delegates and is the primary voice, not of the general population, but of the other Houses outside of the reigning family. Following is a list of the four Greater, ten Lesser and three Outer Houses represented at the Assembly:

Greater Houses:

1) Druirmen
2) Pelosien
3) Waynlaun
4) Vyrentil

Lesser Houses:

9) Aenevrek
10) Taleren

Outer Houses:

Each House is allotted a certain number of seats based on its standing and resources. There has been great debate over the method in which this is accomplished but this assessment method has stood since the founding of the Assembly with very few ammendments. The division is as follows:

1) 12 seats in total to the Greater Houses (4 each)
2) 20 seats in total to the Lesser Houses (2 each)
3) 3 seats in total to the Outer Houses (1 each)
4) 1 seat per Arch Prelate of the Glory of Graeth'al (total of 3 seats)
5) 1 seat per Labour Sect Leader (9 in total)
6) 3 elected commoners (1 seat each)

Blaek Che' Corvir
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: Blaek Che' Corvir (pronounced BLAKE shay-COR-ver) was a young member of the Black Trillium known for his lack of diplomacy. Shortly following the time of Kaylor and Chloe's residence at the Vyr Embassy at Elsmere Major, he made the fatal move of invoking the crere'alen with Bjorn Vyr' Treun in order to gain the Black Trillium access to the Embassy. During the bloodfeud match, Blaek was badly beaten but refused to yield. As a result, Bjorn encased his entire body in stone to end the challenge.

Synopsis: 'The Blessed Virtues' is a book by the renowned Els philosopher Gormetis and forms the cornerstone of Elish philosophy.

Blooded Weapons
Added: 0000-00-00
Synopsis: In Vyr culture, it is believed that a weapon that has killed may draw power from the soul of its victim. This belief has resulted in careful tracking of weapon kills. Even in times of war, kills are tracked for the weapons, not the warriors. Soldiers draw their honor from their weapons and, as such, are fanatically attached to them.

They have since been replaced in this occupation by the newer divisions of the Guardian Corp. Presently, they are responsible for the defence of both Elsmere Major and Elsmere Minor. The commoner expression, 'Can you bribe a Borderman?" is meant to imply an obvious negative answer. (ie. Can pigs fly?)

The Borderwars resulted in the founding of Torlyn as a military outpost and were concluded by the Treaty of Scars.
